Clicking on the PC speaker balance slider (from the speaker icon on the taskbar) doesn't produce anything. However, the other sliders for MIDI, Wave, Line-in,CD-audio work properly. Any suggestion? I have a Creative SB Live Value card on W98.
If you look closely at the documentation for the audio board you may find a place to plug in a jumper to your system speaker. Some boards have this and some don't.
If you want to adjust the balance on what you're hearing then you need to adjust the balance on the source you're listening to. E.g. If it's a wav file played in media player then use the wave player output. Better still use the balance control on your player.
As DragonQ0105 stated the PC speaker is the single small speaker normally mounted in the front/floor of your case. It won't play stereo therefore won't have a balance control
The PC Speaker Balance slider appears but clicking on it doesn't produce anything, it is frozen, thus cannot adjust the volume between my 2 speakers connected to the sound card via auxiliary. Same thing if you use headphones connected to the sound card: one side plays louder than other side.
For my sound card (audigy 2 zs), the pc speaker can be selected as a device, but is shown with other input devices such as line in, wav, mic 1, etc. It is NOT the output device. The balance is greyed out because, as others have said, one speaker cannot play two balanced channels of sound. Similarly, the auxiliary is an input, not an output. You can adjust the balance of each playback source (line in, wav, aux, etc.), or the overall playback volume and balance.
It seems you should be adjusting the overall playback settings, and your speakers should be connected to the appropriate output connection such as left or right front speakers. The headphones do not have an independent adjustment. They are controlled by the same playback control.
OK, first things first, make sure that your speakers are plugged into your line out of the sound card.
Then open the volume control window and check that you can see the following faders:
Volume Control
Wave
CD Player
If you can't see these go to the options and select properties. In the lower box you can select which faders you see. Tick the ones you want (and i suggest unticking the PC SPeaker as this appears to be confusing you) and then OK.
Make sure that each of the balance controls are central. Check to ensure that the balance control in your media player is central. Then you can adjust the master volume balance until it sounds right and central.
Is it plugged all the way in? Speakers/Headphones sometimes only work on one side if the cable isn't all the way in. You may have to put some force on it.
The PC Speaker has nothing to do with your problem. I suggest you start a new thread with the problem "Sound only coming out of one Speaker".
Come on guys, he said he has a Creative SB Live Value card.
He is running Win 98 and the balance slider for his desktop
speakers doesnt respond. When he clicks on it he cant move the slider left or right.
Try reseating your card and reinstall the CD sampler from your win 98 setup disk.
As Norty303 explained, my problem is related to 2 desktop speakers (I was confused with the PC speaker because of a problem of translation from another language).
Clearly: the left speaker is playing louder than the right one. Reseating the card didn't change anything.
But you said the balance control is greyed out. What balance control? There is a balance control on every input (line in, cd, etc.), and there is a master balance on the playback control. You can start by adjusting the master control which should not be greyed out.
If it is greyed out, you've got your speakers incorrectly defined.
ffaucher didn't say anything about greying out he said "Clicking on the PC speaker balance slider (from the speaker icon on the taskbar) doesn't produce anything. However, the other sliders for MIDI, Wave, Line-in,CD-audio work properly. Any suggestion? I have a Creative SB Live Value card on W98" I dont know how different your set up is but on mine right click icon go down to adjust audio properties has another speaker volume setting. Do you?
Yes, on my side too right clicking on the icon produces "adjust your audio properties". When clicking on it, a menu opens and clicking on play/advanced properties shows "configuration of the speakers": it is set to "quadriphonic speakers". I have reset it to "desktop stereo speakers". The only other menu I have is SB Live mixer in which many sliders (play control,CDaudio,Line-in,PCspeaker,Auxiliary,Wave,MIDI,CDdigital.For each of them, the balance slider is in the middle.
