Hello all,

We have a couple of sites using pc softphone only. The general impression is ok but there is 1 complain we get from all sites.

The softphone user has always a good connection, but the other end often complains about 'drop out'(hello, are you still there??) although the connection is still there.

It's my impression that the pc softphone TX path is using silent suppression although this is not activated.

Does anybody experience this as well and have you been able to optimise this??

We use IPO 3.1.48, user 3.1.1. Similar behaviour in 406V2, 403 and 412.

Do they actually miss words of the conversation cause the connection can be remarkably clear.

they don't really miss words, but the called party has the impression the connection is dead...
Perhaps we should say the connection is too good...?

Yeah it sounds like there is no problem. Perhaps a future release of IPO will inject some noise into the voice stream.

Perhaps you could teach your users to be heavey breathers.. ;)

An old copy of Netwon's used to list it as "psophometric noise level". We're all used to some level of background noise to the extent that our brains notice the absence of such noise. In the world of digital telephony it can get so low compared to traditional analog trunks that people would perceive it as 'odd' and suspect they had lost the connection.

The 19th edition just details a Psophometer and lists it as a device for measuring the noise generated by voltage differences between source and receiver.
