Hi Guys,

Got P200 with 64mb ram 10gb hard disk. For some reason between checking memory and login screen. No much software install on any easy solutions or do i have to format the hard drive and then see whethert it's a software or hardware problem.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks

Try a bootlog startup and see what is really happening. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

How long is it actually taking to boot up?
Which operating system are you using?

A P200 will take a few minutes to start up.

Guys thanks for reply.

The system is windows 98 is it because of that at least 3-4 minutes just to bootup. That is crap is n't it. I got same specs loads of data and NT Server 4.0 on it and it's faster than that also another machine which has got same specs but windows 95 on it faster than that PC. There is something wrong in the startup somewhere!!!!!

Thanks

If you are running anti virus software try disabeling
it. I have seen this cause a very long boot sequence.
I am running a 677 Mhz cpu with windows 2000 that is verified by NT 4.0 from the main server and my system
takes at least 2.5 minutes to come up.

You might try going into autoexec.bat and using a DOS command to display remarks. "echo on" might be nice.
Also try putting in a REM " " to indicate you put something in there. Sometimes it is a missing device or a device in the computer like a drive that is not working and it keeps trying to inspect it every way it knows how. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Just for information I have run a stop watch over an old P200;
2.2Gb Hard drive, Win98SE and 12 sundry items in msconfig startup including Adaptec direct CD, CDcreator 50, encarta quick shelf, office startup, power profile, scan registry, task monitor, system tray, stillmagemonitor(stimon.exe), atpitaxx.exe and a recently installed remote disconection utility(for ICS clients).

There is no AV installed (due to how it us used).

Total Time 2mins 50seconds.

Hope you find it useful.

Regards.
