I just installed my asus motherboard (model a7v600) into a new case. Hard drives are installed along with floppy and cdrom drive and video card.

I've tried booting from the hard drive and from a bootable floppy.

Lights on the motherboard and the fan are the only evidence that power is pulsing through the system. The monitor on/off light just blinks but the screen itself is dark.

Any clues?

Normal first step is to short the pins that are for the power on switch to test whether the switch could possibly be bad. Next step would probably be to pull the M/B and try it on a piece of cardboard to see if something is grounded out when mounted in the case.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

check the jumpers on your hard drives.. put the primary drives jumper on 'master' and the secondary drive's jumper on slave.

(sometimes the problem you described is caused by either wrong jumper settings, or CS settings not being properly detected. [cs = cable select])

Reseat - MEM and GFX card...

Double check CABLEING (USB and IDE) and especially HS-FAN...

Check that you have correctly seated the CPU and RAM as this is the normal cause of this sort of fault.

once i had a board shipped with clear cmos jumper in clear position. also check this (worst case it kills your mb).
