PC doesn't boot - printer,scanner,monitor o.K. ... ?

Hi,

please help,
my PC doesn't boot by pressing the power-button.
All other components (printer,scanner,screen work properly).
Yesterday it started surprisingly well, but it was a little bit confused I think:date 1996 and all hardware was recognized again as it was the first time ... ??

Can you help - where is the gag ... ??

Turn it completely off then back on. Does it do anything? Any beeps? any lights come on? Any fans or drives come on? Will the CDROM open?If it does not boot try pushing reset. If it still does not ensure the soft power button is connected to the main board. James Collins

How old is the computer? The motherboard battery could be faulty and in need of replacement.

a similar problem happened to my grandpa's old 486, his clock was going crazy! Evidentally, the battery had been bad for too long, making the clock go bad. A new battery for the mainboard is fairly cheep, depending on what type of m/b you have. I think my grandpa got a new one for about 7-10 bucks if i remember right, I may be wrong. But it really should be quite cheep. If you are not very skillful in the area of computers, and do not get help from these posts, be sure to get it checked out by an experienced professional. Good thinking trying here first though.
