Linear seek test is, as gunthnp said, a HDD reading test that seeks sequentially through every cylinder on your HDD, as opposed to a random seek test. Have no clue what a funnel test is...is it part of the HDD diags on your PC...?
I asked someone about this and this is what he thinks it is.
He thinks it is like a "Butterfly" test, a test that will move from 1 sector to last, then to 2nd sectot to next to last sector, and continue until it meets in the middle of the hard drive.
Hi everyone, i can confirm the butterfly test, received some help from a mate..and this is what he told me
Funnel Seek (aka Butterfly Seek) - tests track zero first, and then steps out to test the outermost track next. It then steps back and tests track one and steps out to test the next-to-outermost track. This operation continues until the whole disk has been tested. The butterfly seek is the most rigorous seek test.
Linear Seek (aka Sequential) - starts at track zero and tests the drive sequentially out to its outermost track. The test ends when the drive reaches the last track.
Linear Read - starts at track (or sector?) zero and read through the whole disk in order testing every track (or sector?) to make sure its readable, it's a non-destructive test and does not thoroughly test the operation of the drive.
