Can somebody indicate the path for the Windows picture and fax viewer, please?

I could not find it neither under C:\Windows nor \system32

and I don't even know how the application is called, to search for it.

These might help you it is not a standalone exe.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}

Have a look at shimgvw.dll in the system32 folder

It is normall called with a CLSID through the registry in various part of HKEY_Classes_Root.

The command line form would look like this:
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen path-to-picture

I see :-(
Does this mean if I want to copy this viewer into, say, Windows 2000:
Would I have to add a registry key?
Or can I just use
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen
to run it?

or it would not work with Win2000/Win NT at all (Why?)

In some older versions of Windows (Windows 2000 and Windows ME) there was a little-known program called "Imaging" that was really a third-party program from Kodak that allowed you to view image files such as .BMP, .JPG, .TIF, and .PCX. This program could be installed from the Control Panel, Add Windows Components under Accessories,"

"Windows 98 and Windows 2000 users are in luck! Kodak Imaging for Windows is included with the Windows 98 and Windows 2000 operating systems."

XP's Picture and Fax Viewer is part of XP and probably so interwoven into that operating system that it would not be installable on 2000, but I wouldn't know that for sure.

Try it (this is a EULA violation by the way).
Copy shimgvw.dll to %windir%\system32
Register it:
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Use the command line form I gave above.

If it does not work, give up.

Unregister:

regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
and then delete the file

Good!!
Thanks a lot. I'll try it, at least for curiosity.
Have another star :)
