Hi, I was just wondering if anyone found a good way to automatically update your EXE for bug fixes? I used to just PC Anywhere into the computers, but not we have more computers using the application and it makes it difficult to coordinate the updates.. Any ideas?
Thanks
John

You could try checking the version of your app against a known good version stored somewhere, or even store in a database the current version number. If the app running local is not that version then have it launch a small update program to replace the running version. That way the program can automatically handle the updates for you.

I do have to say that this is an idea i have been playing with and have not really tried it yet, but i can't see any reason why it should not work.

Through 2000, there are administration tools that will allow you to check computers across the network to see what they have installed, and if they need an upgrade install the latest version. On WinNT, I would suggest creating a batch file run upon login to the netwrok, that would check for an application version and upgrade if needed.

It all depends on how often you are upgrading the programs on the path to take Craig, mailto:sander@cogeco.ca

I hope my post was helpful!!!

where, in 2000, would one find these tools to automatically update an app to the current version?
