Your message is a little unclear. Can you get into XP? Is the issue only that you cannot apply a Norton Live Update? Or is the issue that you re-installed Norton Antivirus without removing the original version and now your machine cannot get updated virus defintions.? Or your machine constantly reboots and you cannot do anything?

I have the same problem, I think. The worm created a virtual hard drive (F) on my comp. When I scanned with Norton's, could not find any infected files. When I tried to install the patch, I couldn't. I have decided to format my harddrive, and now I can't into DOS. PLEASE HELP!!

Since you can still get into your machine, you have several options open to you before contemplating a reformat and reinstall.

If Norton with current defintions did not find msblast, you do not have it. Note: msblast does none of the things you cite, it does not create an F drive, and it does not block Norton or any other Antivirus software.

You have something else besides msblast.

And it is certainly something that is blocking the application of the MS patch for RPC buffer overflow vulnerabilities.

The first step is to check your System Restore facility throught Start, Help and Support. If you have a viable relatively current restore point, apply the restore point and reboot.

What is this F Drive's details, any further information on it?

What File System are you using.

In both these instances knowing the exact error messages displayed will help.

this site has several tools that can help u, including a prog that will disable the RPC vulnerability thru an assembly language routine that circumvents ms's patch method. u should then have all the time u need to enable the patch from ms
