Hi,

I am loading a standard XP image onto a machine, but i need to change the computer name before the image boots, so there is no conflict on the network.

Is there an easy way of doing this with .reg files or DNS servers please? I really dont want to make 30 images!

regards
zaphy

Just boot machine standalone?

Are you using a tool (like sysprep, ghostwalker) to change the SID?

We use Norton's "Ghost" to make our images. Once you apply this image to a drive or partition we have not only the problem of having the same name but also the same SID. Norton has a simple DOS based tool called "Ghost Walk" (ghstwalk.exe) which not only allows you to change the name but also generates a new SID (random). This is a very useful tool if you are using Ghost ... not sure if it will help in your situation.
