I have a client who needs to copy charts from Excel and paste them into Powerpoint. The problem is, when she does this, she loses the colors in the chart. Lets say the chart in excel is red green and blue, when she pastes it into PPT, it turns into Black, white and grey. Has anyone come across this before and how did you fix it?!...oh, btw, thge client is running XPsp2 and Office 2003.

TIA...

I'd love to hear the exact answer to this myself as I've encountered this problem frequently. I can't speak to the specifics but it seems to be related to the order the programs are opened and how that makes them group with each other.

Along the some lines as opening two sessions of Excel vs. opening several spreadsheet in the same session... your paste options change.

When I've encountered the issues it's helped me to close everything... open Powerpoint then open the Excel file that contained the chart I want. I tend to get color when it's done in this order.

I wish I could answer with more specifics but that's what I know.

Thanks for the tip. Maybe its something to do with the way OLE works? I think i'll ask our programming guy when he comes back from vacation. I'll elt you know what i find out.

Soo..i went to the clients site today, and i figured out what the problem was. It's all related to the default printer. If the user has a B&W printer set as the default when they start PPT, the charts and other graphics paste as B&W. If however, they select a Color printer as their default BEFORE they open PPT, all charts and images paste as Color. I have a feeling it is something to do with how the document is formatted for output when it is created (the presentation they use is a monthly one where they change several of the charts but mostly it stays the same, hence the pasting etc).

If anyone figures out EXACTLY why this happens, i'd love to know!!
