I have a win 2k professional laptop where a user has changed the admin password and doesn't know it. I can log on our network as administrator on his pc. Can I changed the password that way?

Yup, all you have to do is, as you said, logon to the network using an ID with admin rights, right click on My Computer and select manage, then expand Local Users and Groups. Once there, go into the Users folder, right click on Administrator and select Set Password.

Hope this helps.
