I can locally telenet into my CISCO PIX using password 'password' but if I telent from WAN to my public IP address, I am prompted for my password where I enter 'password' but login fails.

Is there a different password connecting from LAN and WAN?

What and how do I change locally in order that I can connect from WAN. Is there a different user name associated with the password from WAN (e.g. admin)

Thanks
Mickey

You cant telnet to the outside interface, pix doesnt allow that. you need to use ipsec to access the pix from the outside. You can use ssh to connect to your outside interface. I recommend you use ssh instead of telnet at all times, even when you are at your local lan.

Do this

Define a hostname and domain-name then generate the key

hostname PIX
domain-name cisco.com
ca generate rsa key 1024
ca save all

Then setup access control

ssh XXXX YYYY outside
ssh XXXX YYYY inside

Thanks Boymarty24

Appreciate your response... which SSH client do you recommend I use?

Thanks
