I have a perfect running XP Pro system. Never gives me any problems except it will NOT remember my password to log onto my ISP.

I have to type my password in even though I have remember password selected. Anyone have a clue how to make XP Pro remember my log on to my ISP password so I will not have to type it in each time I boot up my computer?

I have DSL with SBC.

Linney,

>>>How about this? <<<

I am NOT having a problem with OE6. The problem is when logging onto my ISP not OE. Each time I want to log onto my ISP I have to type the ISPs password.

I have a friend who is expert at building computers and he said he has not seen that happen when you have "remember my password" selected and did not know how to fix it.

I have DSL with SBC in California.

XP Pro runs perfectly with no problems and no error messages.

Everytime I install XP it does not remember ISP passwords even though I do select the option.

Everytime I install SP1 the problem goes away and it works as it should.

So install Service Pack 1 if you haven't already.

bcastner,

I DO NOT USE DIAL-UP.

I have DSL and you do NOT dial up to DSL. You log onto it. When I log onto DSL it does not rememeber my ISPs password so I have to type it in each time I log on. I do have Remember my password checked but it does not remember it.

Grenage,

I have SP1 installed and all critical updates installed into XP Pro.

ALL: Each of my notes on this subject says I use DSL and NOT DIAL-UP. So please from now on address answers on LOGGING ONTO DSL to my ISP. I have NO OTHER PROBLEMS with XP Pro, as it runs to perfection.

Thank you,

Again I refer you to my original link.

I think it is worth a try.

"This fix also applies to Outlook, OTHER PROGRAMS that store passwords in the Protected Storage System Provider sub branch of the Registry. It also corrects some issues with Internet Explorer and Autocomplete."

You can read this too.

jonlog,

The issue is generic. You may not use OE, but the password issue has to do with how XP treats your DSL connection as a protected storage provider.

Similarly, you may not dial-up. But the link I gave you had 9 things to check of which only 1 had anything to do with dial-up per se.

Linney's suggestion was an apt one: your problem may well be a misidentification of the connections provider class in the registry. My line of attack dealt with the authentication side of any connection, whether it requires a physical dial-up, or in your case just the username and password authentication. The issue in general terms is a generic one: it involves internals of XP and its choice of approach to connection class and authentication.
