I recently set up a brand new (fresh) server to run various Telecom applications and portals on, after installing VOIP Monitoring Manager, whenever you try to connect with the VMM client, it always asks for a password.

What Password, exactly?

During the VMM Server setup, it only asks you to create the username/pass for sa/<yoursqladminpassword> but this does not appear to be the password VMM is asking for.

In addition, there is nowhere to put in an LDAP/user authentication, so I have no idea what password its asking for. I've already run the full gamut of things it could have been (leave it blank, our CUST login password, DADMIN, my LDAP password, etc..)

I'm completely perplexed at what I should be entering here. It's completely non-intuitive. Can anyone help?

Right click on the VMM server ICON in the system tray, there is a place to set a password there.

Mitch,

The only thing in the system tray are three disconnected network links, 1 connected network link, and an icon for Apache...

I can rip this out and try to install it again, but I'm on my second attempt here. Last time, no icon either -- just the apache icon, the server is definately running, since I can get to it from browsers off-server

Did I miss a step somewhere?

Phoneguy, thanks! It looks like they're having the same issue I am. Star for both of you for getting me in the right direction!

Hmm -- following some of the instructions there, I got the icon to come up by running mstsc /console (jeez...stupid Remote Desktop...)

However, now that I've come up against the database connection problems I'm confused. In that thread they say:

"ufrank, i solved that issue by connecting to the db though sql management studio. the sa profile default points to master, you have to change it to vmm. under the security folder -->logins -->sa...there is a drop down default database...for some reason it defaults to master, you have to change it to vmm. That solved my problem."

What is sql management studio? This doesn't appear to have been packed with the SQL Express setup, and so far it won't take the initial config credentials either. Now I'm stuck in the mud again, so to speak.

another clue, is to install the SNMP Service, and add "public" as "read-only", and "private" as "read/write", make sure to restart the SNMP service...

When i set up VMM recently, I had to log into the SQL management studio as the vmm user in order to change the password for first use. I think that's a sql server thing, not an Avaya thing. It's been a couple weeks, and I don't have my notes in front of me.

Try logging into the db using SQL management studio (or whatever it's called) as the vmm user and see if you are prompted to change the pw. Then place the newly changed pw in the VMM Server settings as the db password. Go to {file>connect to sql database} and set the login name and password as appropriate}.

The client access password can then be set under {edit>options}.

I hope this makes sense...

Cool...got this working, the database connects now, the tray icon lives...

problem though. I found an older version of VMM while I was screwing with all of this...it could find the endpoints.

The (newer) one I just installed (and had to do all this fuss with) won't show any endpoints at all?

Note: the reason I'm installing this version is because its more or less what our avaya engineer said to install, and the older version won't run as a service - it has to run under a logged in account it seems, maybe I'm mistaken. If thats not the case, then I'm reinstalling the old version (it at least shows my endpoints!).

Good grief...what a troublesome program...
