I have a curious incident that occurred yesterday and today.

Yesterday a user needed me to do some work in his computer (xp pro), he called me and gave me the password. When trying to logon I was getting the wrong password message, then I tried typing it in uppercase and it worked. This morning the same person calls me and asks if I changed the password and I said NO, it is uppercase and you didn't tell me; then he reassures me that his password was lowercase and not uppercase as it is now.

Later on this morning I had to re-start a winnt 4.0 server, and when I tried to logon it gives me the wrong password message, then I changed it to uppercase and it worked.

Did anybody had this problem before?
Is there a virus around that is doing it?
or any thing that I check other that running the antivirus?

I need to start looking into this problem as it may cause a serious problem in the near future.

Any help that you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

I have this problem when logging in to a server with Terminal Services or other remote administration programs. Sometimes, the 'case' of what I'm typing is reversed. I forget why. Ask anyone if they have logged in with a remote administration program.

Hi rtichnor and thank you for your reply!

The server went back to normal by itself a few minutes after I posted.

The client computer that experieced the same issue still has the problem and he doesn't log to any remote server.

On the server (nt 4.0) I have vnc installed to administer the server remotly, but I've being using it for about two years with no problems.

Any other thought?

Sometimes hitting the Scroll Lock key will reset the keyboard. 95% of the time that's usually what caused it to happen in the 1st place in my case.

For the other 5% I can't pin down what key combination I've hit, or what app I've used, to cause it. In these instances a hard boot (not a restart) of the client computer resets it.

Cheers.

If you are using VNC, the problem usually occurs when the CAPS LOCK key is on, on the remote computer.

thank you guys for your help,

I guess the problem with the server was caps lock on the server while using vnc, but with the client computer I still can't figure it out.

Thanks again,,,
