Passing Name over ISDN?

Hello everyone!

Here is the deal:

I want to pass the name of my extension out over ISDN when I place phone calls. I have modified the "ISDN public unknown numbering" form in the G3R, and have been very successful in passing a pre-determined CPN to another user equipped with a phone display. For some reason I can't get my name to pass with it. I have enabled "send connected name" to yes in the trunk group, as well as completed numerous "list trace station xxxxx" when I make the phone calls. The list trace command shows that I am sending my CPN and name but the name never reaches the other end. Can the carrier restrict sending the name and not the CPN/ANI?

For example:

My Avaya account exec. called me today and I could see his ANI and his NAME on my phone display (very neat feature).

Check to see if Send Name is stroked to Y on page two of your outgoing trunk-group form.

Yes, the carrier restricts sending of name in almost all cases.

The only reason your Avaya account exec's name shows up is that it is an avaya equipment to avaya equipment call with ISDN/SS7 connectivity end-to-end, and the intermediary devices aren't stripping the 'extra' fields in the setup message.

In the 'normal' world, when you call from an ISDN equipped PBX to a 'regular' callerID capable phone, the Calling Party Number that you program in the PBX is sent 'forward' with the call in the setup message, but the receiving telco does a database lookup 'backwards' to your LEC to get the name associated with the CPN in the setup message. Not all receiving LEC's pay the fee to do the lookup to display a name. They often display 'XX call' where XX is the originating state.

There are certain cases where an NI-2 equipped PBX can transmit name if the CO is correctly configured, but I've only heard of this in Canada.
