Passing backup info from legato to unix 1

Is there a way to pass a return code of sorts from Legato
to unix? We would like to delete some files automatically
after our nightly backup using a script started by cron, but would like to verify
that the backup completed successfully first.

You could use savegroup notifications to email an account.
A cron job could then read and parse that email to see if it
was successful.
