passing a form variable

I am using ASP and Javascript to create a database search page that will ultimately lead to ahref results at the final destination. What I don't understand is the concept of taking the values selected in list box 1 and passing that value to be displayed in the second page along with filtering the list box 2 on that value. I know this is not difficult, but it has been giving me fits.. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
