Im about to purchase a re-partitioning software package. I was reading about PartitonMagic, and its system requirements dont mention 2000 Server. The only one that does mention it, is PartitionMagic Volume Manager.

$69 for PartitionMagic
$600 for Volume Manager

So, can I use the $69 version of PartitionMagic on 2k Server?

Not running anything fancy, 1 Dell powerEdge 1650 PDC, with 4gb system partition, and 29gb on the other. I just wanna add 2-4gb of space from E drive, to C.

Will it work?
Any other suggestions?

I don't know enough to tell you, but if it's a production server, be careful. If not, the worst that happens, you lose $69 and a little effort. Good luck. (Make sure you have a good backup including registry before trying anything fancy.) Glen A. Johnson

we bought a copy of PowerQuest Volume Manager. if i remember correctly, partition magic does not work on 2000 server or i probally would have used the copy that we have here in the shop.
this product works real nice.

The one for servers is called ServerMagic. We've used it on NT4.0 servers without a hitch.

Partition Magic won't install on NT or 2k server.

Hmmmm, thats bad news...I may have trouble getting the county to buy a $500 piece of software, which I may only use once...county government and all....

ServerMagic says its for netware anyway....

p.s.
we got the volume manager software because of the nature of the partiton stretch and time constraints to get it done. one could always resize the partitions the old way: back it up and rebuild it, restore. if you can afford the down time. it is tough to spend that kind of money for a one time deal.

anyway i did want to add that i think volume manager only supports hardware based raid, not software based.

Doesn't Win 2K server have an option to extend a partition, built in? GlennA

Hi,

I have found a way to use Partition Magic V7 on 2000 Server successfully. The way to do it is to install the package onto a WIN95/98/Me MMachine and create the Emergency Disks when asked. Boot your 2000 Server machine to these disks, follow the on screen instructions and you will find your troubles will go away.

In fact i did re-partition a 2000 Server with it today.

BUT DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
