Parameter PickList Display Changes Whimsically

Hi,

This is a silly annoyance, but maybe it's something I'm doing. I have a report with multiple parameters. Every once in a while, the parameter picklist display will change from "Description" (what I originally selected) to "Value + Description" without any knowing intervention on my part! This results in confusion (and looks silly) when the Value and Description happen to be the same. I'm planning on making this report available to many users, and want to ensure that the display is clear.

Is there something I could be doing that is causing this to happen? I don't think I have edited these parameters at all, so it doesn't seem to be a function of visiting the set default screen. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm using v.8.0. Thanks.

Are you running the report from within CR, or using external code?

I've not seen this one, though I know of some concerns with the Active-X control on XP.

Have you applied the patches, and can you faithfully reproduce the error?

Hi,

I'm running the report within CR. I have only installed one patch (last Feb.), to correct a running total problem. Do you think it is advisable to regularly install patches as they are made available? I couldn't find anything on the Crystal Decisions website that related to this problem.

The error has occurred maybe three or four times. Since I can't seem to relate it to anything I'm doing, I can only wait and track any further occurrences, I guess.

Any other thoughts? Thanks.

I've had the same thing happen in v8.5. I've narrowed it down to a couple of events:
1) If I add a subreport that's linked to the parameter. CR changes Descrip to Value+Descrip.

2) If my report crashes (only once every 10.0E100 years) it happens when I reopen the report.

The thing happens in v9 when adding a subreport.

I think you're on to something! I didn't make this connection before, but...I'm running large reports using a 56k line, and sometimes when the report hangs while trying to access the database, I give up and end the report (Control, Alt, Delete), and maybe that's what is doing it, although I don't see why this should occur, since I ordinarily save the document before running it. It makes me wonder what else might be changing without my knowledge!

I am using a lot of parameters (7), but don't think that should be a factor.
