Parameter in a formula

I've included a parameter field in a formula and want to assign it to a variable
datevar OtherHolidays := {?OtherDateRange}
however crystal is telling me that "a date is required here"

what can I do to circumvent this?

I forgot to add the parameter from the field explorre to the report...D'oh!
