Hi, I have a hotsync problem that I've about given up on. I recently bought a newer Compaq Presario 1200, Athlon processer and plenty of memory with Windows ME installed and 2 USB ports which I have a Belkin USB adapter for.

I have been successful Hot Syncing twice - each time after I re-installed the Palm Software and running the WinMe usb patch. Both Usb Ports function, the Palm drivers are in and working properly. Email is set up using Outlook 98 or better.

Each time after a successful hot sync, on second use, I get a message that says Com1 is not available for use. It appears to being confusing itself with the modem, on Com 3. I also tried disabling the modem and this did not help either.

Both boxes are checked - the serial and usb for hot sync.
I'm at a loss for what to do. I even went on line when and spent an hour with one of the Palm Reps who told me that there appeared to be some sort of a conflict. No kidding.
I'm wondering if I installed Windows 2000, if this would help.

Hot Sync worked fine on my older presario using a serial connection. I've been using Palms for several years and have never had this much grief. What I don't understand is why I can successfully Hot Sync once, after installing the Palm software - 4.0.1 and the ME patch, but cannot do it twice.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

I was having trouble with my Win ME and USB connection. I had to make sure that "direct serial" was the only option checked. The Palm USB drivers are making the USB port look and act like a serial port - not a USB port.

Try only having the "direct serial" checked and see what that does. Einstein47

I can tell you I run Win2000 and Hot sync and have had no problems . Win2000 seems to be a bit more stable than ME . I don't know why but almost everyone I know that had ME installed on there PC when they bought it have had a problem of somekind . Most have went and installed Win2000 or XP . Thanks for the tips - just got off vacation and I'll try them tomorrow.

Update - I upgraded to Win 2000, and only have the direct serial checked. After several months of grief, I was actually able to hotsynch 3 times in a row! Thanks for the suggestions.
