I configured etherchannel using PagP protocol. When I show port channel it shows that it is in desirable and silent. Can someone explain to me what the silent status is?
"silent" mode is when that end of the connection is not generating any traffic, so it's not taking part in the Etherchannel, you need to check that side of the connection to see what's configured wrong, to have the channel exchange PAgP packets the state at both ends of the connection must be "auto" or "desirable"
I'll never uderstand why Cisco gives every protocol so many modes. On or Off is all you should ever use. Stick to that and your life will be easier. A varient of the Keep it Stuipid Simple rule.

I agree, ...
especially the auto mode with Etherchannel, because you can´t go back to the off-mode, without interrupting the connection for a sec.
And, .... autonegotiation ... and ...so on.
But ---as far as I know it should never work when both ends are on auto ???
I have both ends set to desirable. When I show port channel it shows them as connected silent. When I show port channel statistics it is showing Pagp packets transmitted and received. I just wanted to make sure I had everything configured correctly.
