I have an IP office that pages across phones only. Ever so often, a loud noise/tone will be heard when paging. Any idea what may be causing the noise? Unable to nail this down to any one particular phone.

Is this always the same phone with the screech, if so try replacing the phone

It sounds like the emergency broadcast system tone at different volume levels. I've actually never heard it. Just going by the customer description. They claim they can unplug the phone and plug it back in and the problem will go away for a few days and then return. It's always a different phone making the page and different phones that get the screech noise. I can never seem to get it narrowed down any further. Phones have been swapped around, new cross connects installed and modular connections to the IP Office.

If the phones are really close to each other it could be feed back from the speaker phones as a page will come over the two way speaker, also look at the auto gain control and turn it down or shut it off.

two phones side by side, when one activates their speaker phone it will give such a sound

I once had a request to have a speed dial set up to dial 9, so anything goes here I guess

Doesn't appear to be a feedback thing. Not sure what release they are on. I would like to hear more about 8.0 from tlpeter. What was the fix on 8.0?

I had an opportunity to hear this today. Actually, what is happening is that a user will "all" page from a phone and one other phone emitted a low volume dtmf sounding tone. The actual audio from the page is not heard on this one specific phone. They claim this occurs on different phones at random although I have yet to hear it. Anyway, I reset the phone that was acting up which cleared the problem for now although I have a feeling that it will return given the amount of complaints received. If I ever get to the root cause, I will post it here. Thanks to all that have participated in this discussion.
