Pagemaker palettes on 2 monitor system

I run Pagemaker 7 on a system with a Matrox dual-head graphics card and 2 monitors attached. Unlike Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or other programs, Pagemaker does not allow to move palettes on the other screen so that the "main screen" is only used for the layout itself. Any idea?

Donald Gruener has this informative FAQ on the Adobe forum about dual monitors:

First of all, PageMaker - even version 7 - does NOT support dual monitors.

I have a workaround that works for me, however this will only work if you are running monitors that are the same size & resolution. It’s a little tricky and not nearly as elegant as Illustrator and Photoshop. I run a Matrox G450 and Windows 98; I can’t report on how this works with other configurations because I don't know enough people doing it.

Here's what to do:

Launch PageMaker.

Click the Maximize/Restore button (second from right in upper right corner) so that PageMaker is within a window and NOT maximized. Drag the PageMaker window over onto your other monitor (I have my secondary monitor on the right, haven’t tried it on the left).

You can array your palettes on your secondary monitor.

When you open PM files, they tend to open maximized within the PM program window. You need to click the Maximize/Restore button in upper right to make the document a sizeable window. Resize it to fit within your primary monitor.

You're all set to work with no palettes cluttering up your document window.

One of the problems is that even though you save the document with its window sized that way, the next time you open it, it will fill the PM program window again, stretching across both monitors. However, if you just click the Maximize/Restore button in the upper right, the second from the right, it will "remember" how it was when you saved and shrink back over onto your primary monitor.

The other problem is that the first time you open any given PM document with your new stretched out PM window, you will have to resize it. Once you've done it and saved it, however, just a click of the button will resize it.

By the way, InDesign works on two monitors the way Illustrator and Photoshop does.

Special Thanks to Jeff Wise for finding this workaround and insisting to me that this can work in spite of my initial skepticism.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
