On my worksheet in big black letters is Page 1 and it is written across my screen. I can't print or print preview.

BTW, you were in Page Break Mode.

It's not page break, page break mode a black line is across the screen. There is a black line, but it is accompanied by Page 1 in big black letters, covering majority of the screen.

Sounds just like Page Break view to me. That has "Page 1" in big letters across the screen (though admittedly I've always seen them in gray rather than black).

Have you tried View > Normal as Skip suggested?

If that's not it, what version of Excel are you running? Did this file come from someone else? Perhaps they have tried to "lock it down" to disallow printing.
