package running more than once

Every once in a while for no noticable reason a package that has run on a users desktop already runs again. Its as though SMS is not seeing that it already ran. The only thing we have been able to do is to expire the advertisement, but the problem with this is every user doesn't receive the package because they were out of the office.
Could someone tell me if they have seen this before, what the fix was or where to look for the possible problem.
BTW if the package installs again its usually one week to the day later.

Have you looked in your pacakge properties --> Advanced Tab --> When Program is Assigned:

This gives you an option to Run for every user that logs on.

Maybe you have it configured to run for each person who logs on...and you don't see a problem because most computers are logged on by one user.

The program properties are configured to "run once for first user who logs on". So I don't think that is the problem.
So far the application has run 3 times on one users machine and twice on a couple other users. Most users it has only run once. Any other ideas? Is the a file or folder I could check on the workstation or desktop?

Try to look here:

c:\winnt\ms\sms\clicomp\apa\data\SRC00037.000 This represents the package. On the machines the ran the package multiple times, you will see something like .001, .002, .003 etc. Edit these in notepad and see if they are linked to different users.

This probably isn't the problem, but it is something to check: You can also make a package rerun on clients if you set the advertisement schedule to be re-occurring. We use this for anti-virus updates, etc. Any easy way to tell is check the advertised program monitor on the problem client and look at the scheduled to run column.
