I bought a p4 1.3 Ghz OEM cpu +heatsink in an auction, and, from another site, I got myself an ASUS p4 motherboard *and* 128 RDRAM. When they arrived I was told by the technician who would put things together that the cpu was not working, so I sent back to be replaced. To check the rest, the man temporalily installed a p4 1.4 cpu in this system, * and* a set for memory other than the one I had purchased. He said the memory I had was not functional with a 1.4 p4 cpu.
Is that so? If not, what can be the problem? Is it possible that the memory and/or cpu were "burnt" by a missaplication of current or some other mistake?
The memory is in one piece, but in the m/board box there was another couple of enameled copper sticks, comblike, inscribed ASU016 ACM R1 . 00, of which one was then istalled in a slot, next to the RDRAM.I was told that the remaining stick would be used in the event of adding to the mempory, again in the slot next to the memory augment.

Is it two kinds of memory that are used with this processor?

I wanted to be as desciptive as possible, since I do not undestand very much of this new matters, thatseem to differ a lot from the old style pII I have now.I appreciate your good will to help and thank you !

well you can get sdram ddr or RDram the one intel is pushing see what your board takes So long and thanks for all the fish.

MIS, I suppose that eventually it boils down to exactly what you suggest, i.e. test and see if it works.I am trying to understand, that's all.I am glad you appreciate my fish, whatever that may be.Thank you!

At this time Intel Pentium4 processors require Rambus memory modules (aka RDRAM or RIMM). The modules must be installed in pairs and all the memory slots must be filled on the Asus P4T motherboard. The blank modules that come with the motherboard are terminators and are used to fill the slots when only two memory modules are used. The Pentium4 also needs a special power supply with two extra connectors (one 4 pin and one six pin). I've been told that someone makes adaptors so you can use a standard ATX power supply, but I don't have any experience with that and recommend that you use a power supply designed for the Pentium4. Also, be sure to use the special tray that comes with the motherboard for mounting the heatsink and fan.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

"When all else fails read the instructions" he said sarcastically.:)
