oxc0000142 errors.

Hi,

I have a user, who at at the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen when logging in gets an error that says "mstask.exe application error oxc0000142" he then clicks cancel or O.K. and the messages goes away. The next message that pops up is :STISVC.exe application error oxc0000142" with the same cancel or click O.K. to make the message go away.

At this point, he can put in his user name and password and login. He will then see his wallpaper, but another message pops up that says "userinit.exe application error oxc0000142" and the computer basically hangs right there. Does anyone know what is causing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like applications trying to run at start up.

Run and clean the pc using, adware, spybot, cwshredder, giant spyware and hijackthis.

Is this is a brand new message?
There are perfectly legitimate reasons for the error to be thrown due to a restriction on user permissions to the registry or folders. Has anything: new application, new user changes, been done?

I would not discount the possibility of malware. Download - update - and scan the problem system with the trialware of Giant AntiSpyware:
