Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to install Outlook Web Access for exchange 5.5 on our Windows 2000 Server (our Web Server running IIS 5.0) and I have a big problem. When I try to install the OWA component from the Exchange 5.5 CD on our Windows 2000 server it tells me that I don't have the necessary fixes installed and it then aborts the installation. Has anyone seen this before?

I've tried looking everywhere but I can't find any articles pertaining to this situation. I found one article telling me to install some NT4 fixes but I obviously can't do that on a Windows 2000 server.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks. Niall

When you install Windows 2000 Server IIS 5.0 is installed (like you mentioned). OWA is part of this install I believe. You do not need to install the OWA from the Exchange 5.5 CD as this is an older version and will not run in a Windows 2000 environment. I believe if you go into Add/Remove programs, and you click on IIS and you hit details you should see OWA somewhere. I am not in front of my Windows 2000 Test Network so I can not give you precise information. If you need me to check for you I will but what I am trying to say, by default OWA should already be installed when you installed Windows 2000 Server. Let me know if you need me to assist you more and I can give you a better answer by tomorrow.

Thanks for your reply.

I did solve the problem just a few hours ago. I was finally able to find some documentation about this error on Microsoft's website. The problem was with CD version of Exchange. I had a Microsoft Select version of Exchange 5.5 which contains both the standard and enterprise versions. Because it contains 2 versions of Exchange the setup files were named srvrmax.exe and svrvmin.exe and apparently that was what was causing the problem. I had to copy the install folders onto my hard drive and rename one of the exe files to setup.exe. I then ran the setup.exe file from my hard drive and everything worked like a charm.

Here's the link if anyone is interested:
