When setting up a backup you have three options for what to do either append etc, I do not wont to append, all I wont is for it to just overwrite, so I select the last option that said, that said to format if it doesnt know what the media was.

Does this effect my restores in any way? I have ten tapes.

I used to use Backup exec and it just let you select overwrite all media.

Any suggestion or tips?

I guess you just want ARCserve to accept whatever tape you give it and overwrite it with the new backup data. In that case you use the third option.
When overwriting tape media there will always be a tape format, which means the former data on the tape is no longer accessible and cannot be restored.

hope I'm clear

regards
