I've got a set of backup tapes that I use for daily backup and for some reason when it tries to write on one of the tapes I get the: "Media <medianame> is overwrite protected"

When I look at the media in the Media tab, it says that the overwrite protected until is set to overwritable. And for the Appendable until is set to "infinite - allow append". The media is not full either. I tried turning the overwrite protection to none but that didn't seem to make a difference.

I'm using version 9.1. Any ideas?

You've probably already checked this, but did you make sure the write protection tab on the physical tape itself is not set to Protected? It's like the tab on floppy disks. Just thought I'd mention it since I often overlook the obvious myself.

Hi all.
Have you installed SP1?
It´s not the same issue, but some kind of: the 9.1 (4691) has a bug which is fixed by the HotFix3 (or SP1). It shows the retention period incorrectly for some media. Just have a look of the issues solved by SP1...just try.

I am having the exact same problem with Exec 8.6. It was running fine and doing the daily backup and then on Friday Windows update downloaded SP1 and now the daily jobs are failing. I checked the physical tab and it's to the right which is the way it's supposed to be. I tried a different tape and created a new job and it ran fine. I then tried the daily job and the new tape and it hung - I checked the alert tab and there was an alert and it was waiting for an okay saying something about the media needing to be overwritten. I looked through all the options and everything is set to overwrite and not to popup that alert window?!?!?!?! Weird!
