I was reading something about using sandpaper to get down to the copper on the top of the cpu, and then putting thermal gunk on that, then making sure that the heat sink is even, etc, etc, etc.... Anyways, I have a k6-2 500 chip just sitting here, doing absolutely nothing. Wondering if I might be able to put it to good use. :)

You must see the huge-est thread in history on this topic within this site! Do a search for AMD K6-2 I think that will find it for you & be ready 'cos you'll be amazed.

I overclocked my K6-2 350 to over 500 Mhz without any real trouble. I didn't have to sandpaper anything... I just bought an oversized heat sink and fan and went to town...
The k6-2's seemed to follow the Intel method of speed selection... Wait until it stops failing under load, then bump it down 2 more notches...

I searched, but to no avail. I think that it may have been taken off the site or something. If you find it, please let me know. The longest thread at tek-tips mm? Sounds neat... Wish I would have known about it while it was brewing. Ah well. If anyone knows how to overclock an amd k6-2 500 past 550, with success, please let me know. :)

I have a kinda old compaq presario k6-2 533 mhz. How do you overclock those things? i tried going into bios...and theres no place to do incresments or anything.

there must be jumper settings on your board...try setting it to 5.5 x 100 to get 550MHz...you might also have to adjust the vcore by .5....

However, I tried overclocking my K6-2 500s but couldn't reach 550... some AMD K6-2 chips just couldn't reach 550MHz.

hope i this helps..

anyone help me with clocking my k6-2 500? i tryed before and windows wouldnt load up.

I looked into overclocking a K6 2 500 when I had one, but didn't bother. Here's why: Everything that I read said that the 500 is basically already overclocked by AMD. AMD have already squeezed all the performance out of it with getting up to 550. Everyone seemed not to be able to get it past the 533 barrier. It was even said to be the least clockable chip out there. In short, you ain't gonna get it to overclock very high, if at all.

But I hope that doesn't dampen your spirits. If the chip is spare and you don't need it, go for it. See what you can get out the sucker. Let me know how you get on with it. For some info, you could try Tom's hardware for details, I think that's where I orignially found an artical. if you haven't been there before.

Good luck with it! :)

Has anyone every try to overclock an AMD K6-3 400??
