I'm not sure whether this is a WinME issue or an IE6Setup issue.
Put simply WinMe was playing up (not closing down, scandisk running for ever, errors re: unstable display settings, msmouse.vxd and other such drivers) so I ran the WinME Setup.
All went well and the PC appeared stable.
I ran windows update and it listed the update to IE6 as a recommended.
However IE6 had prior to the re-install been the default Browser.
I checked and concluded WinME Setup had changed IE back to IE5.5 while lieaving Outlook Express as OE6.
After downloading IE6Setup, I have now entered a error loop - the setup won't fully install, producing a message stating re-boot and try again. Re-booting produces a message that IE6Setup was incomplete, re-run IE6Setup - which fails. On bootup the meesage appears indicating IESetup should be run.
How can I reset every thing so IE6 can be installed?
I've tried downloading IE6Setup to another folder without success. However I'm not sure if all the necessary files are downloaded as a) it does take very long and b) IE6Setup seems to think some of the files are already downloaded though I thought I had deleted them.
All Google seems to find is how to repair IE6, rather than repair the Setup.
IE5.5 is fine, and if all else fails, it can continue as the default browser.
Many thanks.
