outlook2k to exchange 2k thru VPN

Does anyone know if and what i need to do to allow outlook 2k talk to excahgne 2k through a VPN, i am using the sonicwall firewall and the sonicwall ipsec client, it works great for file shares, etc, but i can not get outlook to connect to exchange, i tried a host and lmhosts, but it is not connecting.

connecting to an Exchange mailbox requires authentication by the user's domain controller.

your LMHOSTS file should also contain the domain controller entry. do try that and see if it works now

well it works now, but was a strange problem, what i did was after the lmhost and host files were added and rebooted, it just would not work,
since i am behind a nat device at home, and i have an internal DNS, and i dont use DHCP, i entered in the private network address of my companies Active directy dns server (as a 2nd dns entry ) and wins server .

after a reboot it still woul dnot work , but the next morning it surprisingly just began to work, i removed the IP DNS and Wins settings, rebooted and it still works now with the hosts/lmhosts files

sort of like the problem from a year ago with win2k and NT domain issues , when we had to import a lmhostsa file into wins and once it connected it works,
