Hello,

I have an end user who has outlook2000/IE5.5. Sometimes, she states for no apparent reason the following message will pop up. "The custom form could not be opened. Outlook will use an outlook form instead. The form required to view this message could not be displayed". I have gone over to her workstation with this message popped up. So far I cannot find anything in regards to why this may be happening. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Replace the frmcache.dat file with a fresh copy. joegz

Thanks for your response Joegz. What is the best way to replace the frmcache.dat? And how is this file related to this particular problem? Has this happened to you before?

Thanks,
Zoe

This is the file that controls what forms Outlook has available to use. By default the file should have the standard Outlook forms installed. The easiest way to replace the file is to copy it from the CD or from another machine (preferable one that has not loaded additonal forms so that it is just at the standard size). As additonal forms are installed by Outlook the file grows in size.

If something happened to the file and it got deleted it rebuilds the file but it rebuilds a blank file and so all the standard forms are not available to Outlook thus you get the error message.

The standard size should be around 88KB for Outlook 2000. joegz

Thanks Joegz,

I will just copy this file from the office 2000 CD and overwrite the frmcache.dat files

If this does not resolve the problem (I am sure it will) would you suggest reinstalling office2000? I assume also if I simply reinstalled office2000 this would also reinstall the standard frmcache.dat file?

Thanks for your help!
