Outlook XP very slow to open 1

I recently "upgraded" from Office 2000 to Office XP. I now find that Outlook XP is taking 30-60 seconds to complete launching whereas Outlook 2000 had only taken several seconds.

Has this behavior been previously noted? If so, is there a fix?

I have found that you need to do the following:

Click tools/options/other
Remove the tick from the Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook.

Hope it works.

Also if you have Norton anti virus installed the plugin for Office on that can cause the applications to open slowly. Here is a Microsoft KB article that explains it and gives a work around.

Spot on! I had exactly the same problem and found this track by searching. What a pain!! Disabling messenger allows outlook to fire up in less than a second.
