Outlook XP locking up when attaching file

Hi, I am running Win 2000 have have just upgraded Outlook 2000 to XP. When attaching file in Outlook XP, locks up (sometimes) although can change to other programme. Have to Ctrl Alt Del and end Outlook.exe. Powering down sometimes helps to cure problem for a short while.
Also have settings set to a LAN and modem (when no LAN).How to get rid of message about tasks not appearing when offline, only when sending. Kevin Fielding
