There is a couple of ways to approach this since we really don't know what is the root cause. First you may want to try creating a new personal folder and see if Outlook will open using the new folder.
START - CONTROL PANEL
Select the MAIL applet
(Here is where I hate the new way profiles are handled by Outlook 2002)
Click on SHOW PROFILES
There should only be one profile listed unless you have purposely setup multiple profiles. Select the appropriate profile. Select DATA FILES and record the personal folder information (location and file name) for the existing folder. Click on REMOVE. Click on ADD and create a new folder. Click on Close, Close, and OK. Now retry Outlook and see if it works. If it does then the problem is with the old personal folder and you can try running the scanpst.exe to try and repair the file (that is if there is data in there that you want to recover.
If you still have the same problem then we need to try and rebuild the whole profile. As before go into the MAIL applet, click on SHOW PROFILES, select the appropriate profile and then PROPERTIES
Now if you don't know what components are already installed click on PROPERTIES and then E-MAIL ACCOUNTS. The default selection should be "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and then click NEXT.
At the next window you will get a listing of all the components that are installed, if any. You should record what components are installed and their location (click on the change button to get details of the component). Click on FINISH when done.
Now click on DATA FILES and record the personal folder information. Click Close when completed.
Click Close again. Now that you have everything recorded you can delete the profile by clicking on the REMOVE button.
Once the profile is removed start rebuilding it by clicking on ADD and going through the wizard to setup your account information. Once the account is setup then go to DATA FILES and add your personal folder.
After this is all setup try Outlook again. Hopefully it is just a problem with your personal folder so you can easily repair it. joegz
