Outlook XP hangs if McAfee V6.02 scans attachment

I use Outlook for email as part of Office XP. It is updated with service packs 1 and 2.
I have the latest updates for Virus Scan V6.
When I receive an email with an attachment, Outlook goes into "not responding" status when I try and open the email.

If I turn off the McAfee email scanning, the problem goes away.

Is anyone aware of this problem and how to get around it?
