SYMPTOMS
========

If you have installed the Outlook Web Access (OWA) component for Microsoft
Exchange Server version 5.5 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer,
you may receive the following error message when you try to gain access to the
Logon page:

HTTP 500.100 - Internal Server Error - ASP error

CAUSE
=====

This problem can occur because of changes in Internet Information Service (IIS)
in Windows 2000 Server. Changes need to be made to Collaboration Data Objects
(CDO) to render the data correctly.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange
Server 5.5. For additional information, please see the following article in the

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are
listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in
Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3.

MORE INFORMATION
================

To install the fix, perform the following steps on the computer on which OWA is
installed:

1. Stop the IIS Administrator service, which stops the following services (if
they are running):

- World Wide Web Publishing service

- Microsoft Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service

- Microsoft Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service

- File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Publishing service

2. Stop the Exchange Server system attendant service, which stops the following
services (if they are running):

- Exchange Server Event service

- Exchange Server information store

- Exchange Server message transfer agent

- Exchange Server directory

3. Copy the fix version of the Cdo.dll file to the Winroot\System32 folder to
replace the existing copy of the Cdo.dll file in this folder.

4. Copy the fix version of the Cdohtml.dll file to the Exchsrvr\Bin folder to
replace the existing copy of the Cdohtmll.dll file in this folder.

5. Reregister the Cdo.dll and Cdohtml.dll files by typing the following at a
command prompt, or by clicking Start, Run, and then typing the following
commands in the text box:

"regsvr32 c:\winnt\system32\cdo.dll" (without the quotation marks)

-and-

"regsvr32 c:\exchsrvr\bin\cdohtml.dll" (without the quotation marks)

NOTE: The paths for the Cdo.dll and Cdohtml.dll files assume that these
folders are on drive C; if this is not the correct drive for your system,
change the drive letter of the path to point to the correct drive location of
the files.

6. Restart the services that you stopped in steps 1 and 2.

After you perform these steps, you should be able to use the Exchange Server
Outlook Web Access component on this server.
