outlook web access 2

Hi

Simple question I think.

The clients web site is hosted remotely, I can hoever access the desktop of the 2003 sbs server via remote desktop.

Question can users access their exchange boxes via outlook web access or is there another way to do it?

Not really sure what you mean with the clients web site is hosted remotely. What does that have to do with the SBS box???

But if you can hit the SBS box via remote desktop from an EXTERNAL source, then the config should be relatively simple.

IF you have a firewall you will need to make sure that port 80 is forwarded onto your SBS box. Then you should be able to http://[host/ip]/exchange

If no firewall no config required

Hi

Although the client is using exchange they pick up their email via a pop3 client. Their website is not hosted on the SBS server but by Fashosts on a shared server. Hence the IP address of their website is not the same as their sbs /exchange server.

All that I have read says that you accessd exchange usingsomething like

http://www.themeadgroup.co.uk/exchange

this I suspect will not work because exchange is not on the server which holds the website.

Sorry if I'm confusing you, I'm confused myself

and point it at the SBS box ?

Really am sorry to be so dense if I purchase the domain and point it towards the sbs box then effectivly the sbs box will be hosting that website?

To do that I assume I would need to use their adsl ip address which is provided by Zen internet?

Is there an idiots guide to all this?

I would say forget your website.

Do you have a firewall at your site with the SBS box??? On that firewall, you need to set a rule to forward port 80 to the SBS box. Then you can connect to exchange using

http://IP/exchange

- IP will be the IP address you are on for your Zen internet connection. If you dont have a static IP address and/or your not sure what it is go to

http://www.whatismyip.com

- if you dont have a static IP you might want to look into buying one or using

http://www.dyndns.org

Dynamic DNS.

Also if your users are POP'ing their mailboxes you need to make sure they leave a copy of their mail on the server, which is one of the advance options on your outlook client. Otherwise they wont have any mail in their accounts to view as POP will pull it to their local client.

Don't use port 80. Purchase and install a trusted certificate, and point port 443 to your server.
