Outlook via the Internet

Hello,

Does anyone know how to set up Exchange 5.5 using SMTP so that end users can access their email via the internet? I know you use IIS however I can't find any step-by-step directions on how to implement this.

Method 1:

Install Outlook Web Access on the Exchange Server. Users can then access their mailboxes from a web browser.

Method 2:

On the client workstation, create a HOSTS file or add an entry if the file exists already. The file should contain the name and IP address of the Exchange Server. This will allow the client to resolve the Exchange Server name with an IP address. This plain text file, HOSTS (with no extension), is located in different directories according to the version of Windows on the client workstation. Look for a file named HOSTS.SAM or LMHOSTS.SAM and create the file in that directory. The file HOSTS.SAM is a sample file that shows you how to put entries into the HOSTS file.

Once you have this file in place, connect the client workstation to the Internet and set up an Outlook profile just like you would on your LAN.
