Outlook thinks IE is my default browser 1

I’ve installed Mozilla Firefox for a variety of reasons, and I’ve clicked on the option to set it as my default browser, in fact, I’ve even gone to the trouble of “uninstalling” MSIE from Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Windows Components and if I have, for example, an icon on my desktop which is an internet shortcut and I click on it, it comes up in Firefox (which is how I want it), however, in Outlook links in e-mails that I get always run in MSIE (despite the “uninstall”).

Why? Is this some sort of Micro$oft conspiracy that their programs only play with each other? …and how can I stop it?

Quite honestly, I know major programmers and I gave up on it and kept IE. It was just too much hassle.

Have you already changed the Application Used To Perform Action to Mozilla Firefox for the following Registered File Types?

URL:File Transfer Protocol
URL:Gopher Protocol
URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy
URL:Internet Shortcut

Although the following is the opposite of what you want, maybe you can work it in "reverse":

I use Opera.
I have used Opera's option meny to tell my system that Opera is the default browser for a variety of urls and file extensions. In Outlook 2003 when I click a url, Opera is opened and the url is fetched.

In the Internet Control Panel applet, make sure "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" is UNCHECKED.

In the Folder Options Control Panel applet, make sure HTA, HTM and HTML are all opened with your chosen browser.
