outlook slow to open messages.. 2

Hi,

Just upgraded to a 1.7ghz machine, and I have noticed that outlook xp is extremely slow in opening any mail messages (about 3 seconds before the message is opened). I archived the majority of my mail into another pst, but the main pst inbox is still slow.. any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.. thanks!

When Messenger is removed using some of the popular uninstall methods, there is one registry key left behind that causes Outlook and Outlook Express to take a long time to load. On some computers, this may be accompanied by an entry in the error log saying "The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout"

To fix this, start REGEDIT.EXE and navigate to the key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
You can also do a search for this key to get there easily.

In this key, you will find the keys InProc32 and LocalServer32. In both of these keys, there is a default key. Change the default key to a empty string. Reboot your computer after making the change.

Outlook seems to load up fine, its just when I open any messages that it has that lag. ie, if I have new mail, and wish to read it.. between when I double click the message, and when the new window with the message body opens, there is a 3-5 second delay!

Hrmmmm... maybe its because I went from 640mb sdr memory to 256 ddr memory..

Memory would make a noticable difference for XP. Very noticable. Above 512mb perhaps not, but anything less you will notice.

If the registry edits I earlier recommended prove not an issue, I would look hard at your antivirus program, including getting the most recent updates available for virus definitions and program side issues.

It is likely the pre-scanning fron antivirus, and/or SPAM filters that are at least partly to blame for the delay.

I am also having the same exact problem.

Dell Precision 340
Pentium 4 1.5GHz
Windows XP SP1
Office XP Pro SP2
512MB Memory
Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition

What's weird is I have several computers with the same specs and only this one seems to be having the issue of messages opening slowly, (~3-5 seconds after the double click). I wouldn't think NAV has anything to do with it because I have it on many PCs and do not have this issue.

Digital Candy -- is your .pst file huge? Mine is..

I still have the problem. When I double click an inbox item, it takes about 5 seconds to load. However, If instead of opening that item I reply to it (ctrl-r), it opens up at light speed!! weird. frustrating.

Anyone?

acarruth, I have not tested messages in a .pst file. The user complained about the problem with messages that reside on the server.

I'll check .pst files tomorrow when I'm in the office.

I found a MS KB that solved my problem. My problem was attributed to the user setting up MSN Messenger.

In the above KB there are two "Methods" of resolution to the problem. I already had "Method 1" applied to the computer so I tried "Method 2" and it worked. YAY!
