Outlook 'request' invading Eudora email command

I've been using Eudora Pro with Act 2000 for about a year but suddenly today any attempt to send Act 2000 email is interrupted with a notice that Outlook is not installed, and when I cancel the offered installation ACT freezes.

I've unchecked and rechecked Eudora as my email choice in
Preferences and reloaded Act 2000. The problem persists even when Act is the only program I'm using.

Any suggestions are welcome - except to roll over and start using Outlook.
