"One or more messages in your Outbox do not have a valid account specified."
OL 2000 on Win98. This happens, at least today, when I reply or forward on a message; but "new message" (i.e. compose) seems fine. That error message shows upon clicking "Mail delivery error" on bottom right part of Outbox screen.
Pop3, SMTP using Hotpop.
Do they mean the recipient name is invalid? It is an explicit address sometimes("smith@somewhere.net"
, but other times it shows a nic ("Smith,John"
.
Or do they mean SMTP account? Outlook terminology seems to point that way. But, this is the 1990s, right? So I can just highlight the error and hit F1 ---- never mind, this is a MICROSOFT product.
OK, possibly MAJOR clue: hitting F5 (to make Outlook send and receive against SMTP and POP3 - grrr) gives this braindead message:
"The account specified for one or more messages in the outbox has been removed. Would you like to use your default account (pop.punkass.com) to send these messages?" {YES} {No}
Now this is mondo cool, Microsoft:
1. I only have 1 account, and it shows as (default). Hello!
2. How do you identify what "account is specified for the message?" Right-click it, of course?! NO! Gaaaates!! In fact, what in the wide world of sports are they talking about - what does the account have to do with an individual message anyway...can you specify a different SMTP account for different messages you send (and if so, nice job of hiding where that is done!).
3. If I click yes, it then says it sent it; it moved it from Outbox to Sent; and 6 hours later now, my recipient says it never came (I tried several times).
Sorry for the ascerbic tongue but MS prima donna developers have p**sed me off for the 700th time and it's hard to not have foaming-at-the-mouth web rage against them. Sorry to subject you to it, and believe me that this msg is restrained and heavily self-censored
So ... what the H do either of these messages mean, and what do I do? TIA for covering the developers' deficiencies LOL
