I recently experienced a Lovegate infection, and although the virus is now gone from my system using the variuos tools available, there are 11,500 messages in the Outbox and Outlook (internet only) hangs after the program starts.

Does anyone know of a way to remove this many items from the pst file remotely (any tool out there?) or know of a way I can clear out the Outbox without having to re-install Outlook.

Cheers!

Ouch.

My first try would be to disconnect the PC from the network or internet, so that Outlook will just error out when trying to send the mail (hopefully). Then you may be able to do in and delete the hell out of the Outbox. Make sure you compact all the folders after you empty the deleted items folder, or Outlook will be sluggish.

If that doesn't work, you can create a new .pst in Outlook and using the import function, only import certain folders from the old one (i.e. Inbox and anything else you want to keep).

You could also try with a rule. Create a rule that deletes all messages with an attachment. Don't turn it on. When back at the rules list, hit the 'Run now' button an manually select the outbox.

Also, be patient. It may take a while with that many messages, but I think it will work.
