Outlook express won't retrieve mail from server

OE 6 won't retrieve email from my email server. Keep getting error message stating "password invalid" even though password is correct. I am running win xp and using OE 6. Someone told me I might need to download service pack 3 to correct this?

Maybe .. : In Tools / Accounts / Properties / Servers , uncheck Using Secure Password Authentication ...
